Scleral lenses in Bellflower
Large, custom-made lenses that vault over the cornea, giving clear, comfortable vision to eyes that have struggled for years.
How scleral lenses work
Scleral lenses are larger than standard contacts. Instead of resting on the sensitive cornea, they rest on the white part of the eye (the sclera) and arch over the cornea, holding a cushion of fluid underneath.
That fluid layer smooths out an irregular corneal surface for crisp vision, and keeps dry or damaged eyes hydrated all day. For many patients, it’s the first time in years they’ve seen clearly and comfortably.

Are scleral lenses uncomfortable?
Most people find them more comfortable than regular contacts, because they don’t touch the sensitive cornea.
How long does a fitting take?
Expect several visits over a few weeks: a consultation, a diagnostic fitting, dispensing and follow-ups.
Is it hard to put them in?
There’s a short learning curve. We’ll train you with simple tools, and most patients get comfortable within a few days.
Does insurance cover scleral lenses?
When they’re medically necessary, as with keratoconus, some vision and medical plans help cover them. We’ll check your benefits for you.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. Call to schedule a scleral lens consultation.
