Myopia management for kids in Bellflower
Myopia (nearsightedness) is rising fast among kids. Bellflower families can slow its progression right here, close to home.
Why myopia is more than blurry vision
When a child is nearsighted, the eye is growing too long. Every year it keeps growing, the prescription gets stronger. Higher myopia later in life is linked to a greater risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma and myopic macular degeneration.
Regular glasses sharpen vision but don’t slow that growth. Myopia management uses specially designed lenses or eye drops to help put the brakes on, protecting your child’s eyes for the long run.

Ways we can slow myopia
Every child is different. We’ll recommend the option that fits your child’s age, prescription and routine.
Myopia control glasses
Specially designed lenses that correct vision and help slow eye growth, no contacts required.
Myopia control contacts
Soft daily lenses worn during the day, a great fit for active kids and sports.
Low-dose eye drops
A nightly drop that can slow progression, used alone or with glasses or lenses.

Frequently asked questions
Still have questions? Call (562) 867-4716.
At what age should myopia management start?
The earlier the better. Myopia tends to progress fastest in younger children, so starting treatment as soon as nearsightedness appears gives the most benefit.
Will my child still need glasses?
With glasses, contacts or drops, your child still wears correction during the day. With Ortho-K, many kids see clearly all day without glasses.
Can myopia be reversed?
Myopia can’t currently be reversed, but slowing it down can mean a much lower prescription, and lower risk of eye disease, as an adult.
Is it covered by insurance?
Most vision plans don’t fully cover myopia management, though they may cover the exam. We’ll explain costs clearly before you decide.
Do more outdoor time and less screen time help?
Yes. Spending time outdoors and taking breaks from close work are healthy habits that support treatment. We’ll share easy tips at your visit.
